About
If you are a senior taking either Photo II AP or Photo III AP, the expectation is that you will take the AP exam come May. The Studio Art: 2-D Design AP Portfolio is made up of four parts:
- The Breadth Section: 12 images which demonstrate your mastery of technique and the principles of design. These images can cover a variety of media and concepts but should always focus on design and composition.
- The Concentration Section: 12 images which demonstrates your ability to focus on one topic or medium throughout a series. Your concentration should explore a topic you are interested in and passionate about as well as be completed in the medium you feel most comfortable in.
- The Quality Section: 5 images which you will handpick to physically send in to the College Board. These pieces should be the best of the best out of your portfolio.
- The Artist Statement: A paragraph about your Concentration Series. This small bit of writing will help give the AP Readers more information about your series which you may not be able to convey in your images.
The Assignments and Due Dates
If you are taking an AP course, you will be completing independent assignments on top of the regular assignments through out the school year. The purpose of these assignments is to specifically build up your AP Portfolio (and give you a lot of choice when it comes to submission). On top of these assignments we will have quarterly check-ins to determine how your portfolio is coming along and what changes we might need to make to ensure the best work possible.
The following due dates are when in class-critiques on your independent work will happen. You are required to bring in your rubric with your generated objective, chosen research artist with images and description of their work posted on Mahara, contact sheet analysis, and final edited images turned in either online or in print form.
